Yesteryear Collection

This type of early American locomotive was built around 1868 and helped to pioneer such famous railways as the Santa Fe which was known as the Railroad that built an Empire.
These early locomotives often relied on wood for their medium of fuel and were easily recognisable by their distinctive funnels and cow catcher fronts.

The General is a type 4-4-0 steam locomotive that was the subject of the Great Locomotive Chase of the American Civil War.
The locomotive is preserved at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1959 the (Y13-1) 1862 American General Class Locomotive 'Santa Fe' joined the range.
Although it is a beautiful model many have commented that it could have been greatly improved if it had a matching tender. The cab floor has a hole towards the rear which was probably intended to be used to attach the tender but for reasons unknown the tender was never produced so Lesney probably lost out on a great many sales due to this oversight.

Livery: (Transfer)
'SANTA FE' in yellow with red outline on both cab doors.

Variations/Rarities: This is a relatively common model in dark green, although the trim can be seen in lots of variations. A very short run was in a much lighter green and these are one of the 'Holy Grails' of Yesteryears.
A genuine light green should have the square piston slot and a red rivet on the base and should be in a C or D1 box.

Unrecorded Variation: Some issues 1 to 4 are found to have raised lugs either sides of axles and the remaining issues 5 to 11 are flat.

Comparing an early model with full silver & gold trim (except for the walkways) with a later version that has less gold trim and no silver trim to the headlight

The lighter green Loco, This variation is very rare
